full of love and yummy food

This last Friday we had my dad over for dinner...we had to make sure he got at least one good meal while my mom was in Canada. It was fun and as always the kids loved seeing grandpa.

Saturday was hectic - Ryan wasn't feeling good, I had lots of errands to run. I ended up taking Mady and Ausy with me and even took them out to lunch to Carl's Jr. We hardly ever go to burger places and of course they wanted to try the play place out. I was secretly happy when they weren't quite tall enough to hoist themselves up into the maze of tubes so we didn't stay long. Those places are gross - - but how do you explain that to a 4 and 3 year old?

Saturday night we had babysitters come so we could go out to dinner with friends. We hit up Chipotle (my first time) and Coldstone (definitely not my first time). It was a really fun night. Especially talking about our past criminal exploits...and scheming about a trip to Europe. Will it ever happen?

And today...the day of love. Mady surprised Ryan and I with Valentine's she made all by herself. I was blown away! She had cut out hearts and wrote "I love you" and drawn with glitter glue all over them. They were adorable. I made orange rolls for Ryan to take to work for his coworkers that had pink glaze. They turned out pretty cute (and delicious). We ate lunch with Ryan at work and then instead of doing the stupid thing (like last year) and try and go out to eat we stayed home. I fed the kids and put them to bed early early, then got going on a romantic dinner for two. Ryan came home "early" from work (at 7!) and we had a candlelit dinner: steak, cabbage cheese bacon stuffed potatoes (yummy!), tropical raspberry slushy, wedge salad, and our very favorite dessert: individual molten lava cakes. It made us wonder why we ever go out to eat. And then I looked at my messy kitchen and remembered :)

Happy love day everyone!

Yes to Europe! I'm sad I missed the really fun part of the night! And boo to post-dinner dishes!!! My 1-year old Valentine was easy to please for dinner and left very few dishes :)

Sounds like a pratically perfect valentine's day. You deserve it!! Now if only the dish-washing fairy would have shown up after dinner...

Jess, funny...I made the exact same dessert! We did dinner at home too. I like it much better than going out.
